In past hearings on fair franchising proposals, opponents have rounded up some McDonald’s franchise owners to testify against restoring equity and balance to the relationship. Now comes a report by Janney Capital Markets that crystalizes the outlook that McDonald’s franchisees have for the next six months and rates their relationship with the franchisor. On a scale of 1 to 5, the franchise owners’ business outlook for the next half-year comes in at 1.89, midway between “poor” and “fair”. Perhaps more telling, however is that on that same 1 to 5 scale, the relationship that franchisees ‘enjoy’ with the iconic franchisor was rated 1.70, the lowest rating ever in the McDonald’s Franchisee Survey! But everything is peachy?
