November restaurant sales have just been reported. The survey’s QSR segment, in which some US DD units report, posted a nationwide positive same store sales result of +.7, totally driven by average ticket gains. National traffic was -2.0%. Northeastern same store sales results improved finally, to +1.8%, Midwest was -.7%, Florida was +.2% and South was +.5. The Northeastern turn is a reversal of months of small declines. And lastly, Forbes Magazine has released its annual report on the best states for business for 2017 and North Carolina came in first overall, followed by Texas and Utah with Nebraska and Virginia rounding out the top 5. On the other end of the spectrum, West Virginia was the least favorable state for business with Alaska, Vermont, New Mexico and Maine filling out the bottom 5 states. The Best States for Business ranking looks at six categories, including business costs, labor supply, regulatory environment, economic climate, growth prospects and quality of life to determine the final rankings.
