Another interesting survey was released this week, the annual survey by the Gallup Organization to measure how proud Americans are of their country. It seems the great political divide is definitely real as only 32% of Democrats were “extremely proud” of their country, and 42% of those identifying as independent, but 74% of Republicans placed themselves in the “extremely proud” category. In the aggregate nationally, the figure came in at a record-low of 47 percent “extremely proud”, the first time in the 18-year history of the survey where less than half felt that way. When the results were viewed through an ideological lens, the results were even lower with only 23% of political liberals being extremely proud and 65% of political conservatives feeling that emotion. The poll came amid the national discussion of NFL players taking a knee during the singing of the national anthem.
