It’s not just Starbucks anymore, as more employee groups within the QSR industry are petitioning the NLRB for union representation elections. What essentially began as a movement within Starbucks has now spread to a couple of stores within the Chipotle brand as well as a host of smaller chain brands across the country. We told you of the first Chipotle store to petition for a union just a couple of weeks ago was in Augusta Maine, and now it seems we also have a petition pending from another as-yet-unidentified Chipotle store. One can expect this trend to continue as the labor shortage and historic inflation, coupled with an administration that kowtows to organized labor’s desires provides significant leverage for workers seeking to unionize.
