Fortunately, it hasn’t cleared all the requisite hurdles yet, but a bill to mandate paid sick leave for all employees in New Jersey was passed by the critical Senate Budget and Appropriations Committee early this week by a razor-thin 7 – 6 vote.  One democratic senator joined the 5 republicans to oppose SB.799 in the belief that it would undercut ongoing efforts by New Jersey to become more business-friendly and be recognized as such.  Governor Chris Christie, a former republican presidential candidate, said one year ago that he supports paid sick leave, but not mandating that business pay for it.
