Just to keep those of you who may own CMLs or otherwise transport food products alert, the Food and Drug Administration has issued a proposed new rule for the sanitary transportation of food, that will require certain shippers of food to take steps to prevent contamination during transport. The proposal would create a host of new requirements regarding sanitary transportation practices, record-keeping, personnel training and the like. The new rule as proposed would cover those with more than $500,000 in annual sales, but would not apply to transportation of fully packaged shelf-stable foods. Sounds like another case not unlike the discriminatory sales tax practices our members encounter in Illinois.
