President Obama yesterday announced that he will push Congress to enact a bill mandating paid sick leave for all American workers. According to a LinkedIn post by top Obama aide Valerie Jarret, the administration is filing the Healthy Americans Act, which would require all businesses in the nation employing at least 15 people to provide one hour of paid leave for every 30 hours worked up to 7 days each year. As is his M.O., the President will provide additional paid leave to employees of the Executive branch by a presidential memorandum (similar but less formal than an Executive Order) and is expected to issue a formal Executive Order mandating additional time off (up to 6 weeks paid leave for the birth of a child) for all federal employees.
