It’s been percolating in several state houses and city halls around the country and now, Congress is getting into the Mandatory Sick Leave business. Last week, sick leave legislation was filed in both the US Senate and the House of Representatives. Senator Patty Murray (D-WA) filed the so-called Healthy Families Act, which would mandate that all employers of 15 or more workers provide them with one hour of paid sick leave for every 30 hours worked. Representative Rosa DeLauro (D-CT) filed a companion bill in the US House. Connecticut was first and is now one of three states (California and Massachusetts are the others) that currently mandate paid sick leave on private business.
