It may be a bit premature, but we were pleased to read that a state representative in Pennsylvania has drafted legislation repealing the Philadelphia soda tax. Coming in the wake of the successful repeal of the Cook Country Sugary Drink tax in Illinois, state representative Mark Mustio is hoping to pre-empt other local communities from adopting the soda tax and force repeal of the Philadelphia 1.5 cent per ounce levy. In the other chamber in Harrisburg, state senator Mario Scavello has been looking to line up co-sponsors for his legislation to repeal the tax. Success in these repeal efforts may be a ways off, but the effort and initiative at least can give cause for hope.
