With many states and cities increasing minimum wages to possibly unsustainable levels and others adding mandatory paid sick leave to the costs of trying to run a business, what could be the next big problem that local politicians need to solve to make themselves relevant? Drive-thru windows! That’s right, the city of Portland, Oregon was holding a public hearing yesterday on the City’s current comprehensive plan and proposed amendments, one of which would effectively ban any drive-thru windows in the future. Opponents, including the Oregon Restaurant and Lodging Association among others, have launched a grassroots campaign via social media with this website, Stop the Ban. We should have anticipated the move – Portland banned cannabis drive-thru windows last month, so why should coffee and donuts be any different!
