As the calendar gets closer to 2020, it’s important for all small business owners to be aware and prepare for the changes that will come with the New Year. For example, half of the states in the nation have an increase in the minimum wage taking effect as January arrives. Over the course of the next few weeks, we will be providing specific details on the increases that will occur on January 1. In addition however, with the changes to the DOL overtime rules (increasing the minimum salary thresholds from $455/week to $684/week) becoming effective January 1st, it is imperative that employers review their compensation structure, know who they will be categorizing as exempt in 2020 and know exactly when that final payroll of 2019 is processing as subsequent payrolls will be governed by the new overtime rule.
