Notwithstanding the concerns of some over the generally more reasonable regulatory environment established by the Trump administration across the federal bureaucracy, employees continue to benefit from more effective policies. As a perfect case in point, we noted this week that the Department of Labor Wage and Hour Division (WHD) collected a record amount of wages owed to workers across the country in Fiscal Year 2019, which ended September 30. The WHD collected over $322 Million in back wages and wage settlements on behalf of American workers according to its year-end report, which was released earlier in October. The $322 Million was the largest amount ever collected by the agency and easily surpassed the previous high of just over $300 million! Despite being recognized as much less antagonistic to business than under prior administrations, the agency shows resilience in enforcing wage and hour laws.
