Maybe it’s the next phase of the so-called Fight for $15, but airport workers around the country undertook a 24-hour fast this week to bring attention to their working conditions and allegedly low wages. Not surprisingly, SEIU is integrally involved in the protests. In Massachusetts, the union’s VP explained why, saying that “decades-in-the-making dysfunctional contracting systems in our airports pushed people out of the middle-class and into poverty. The time to fix our airports is now. Together we can win $15 and union right for all airports workers.” We’re not even sure what that means, let alone identify a logical nexus, but we bet it sounded great on a megaphone! Either way, the fasting workers in Boston were joined by five state representatives and two local officials who allegedly fasted with them.
