Despite the fact a new YouGov survey shows that less than half (48%) of Americans surveyed reported a favorable view of unions, the push to unionize Starbucks continues to enjoy significant success. This week, Bloomberg news reported that the union effort now includes nearly 300 individual election petitions filed with the National Labor Relations Board (NLRB) with the union thus far winning an overwhelming 87% of those held to date. Additionally, there are an additional 120 representation elections ordered or under way currently with another 56 scheduled for final ballot counts over the course of the first two weeks of June! Since last fall, organized labor has claimed that 68% of the American public has a favorable view of labor organizations. Whether that’s true remains to be seen, but their approval is high within the Starbucks barista community!
