Tim Hortons to Open Fort Knox Coffee Shop as It Expands in U.S.

Bloomberg reports that Tim Hortons Inc., Canada’s largest fast-food company, is opening a coffee shop at Fort Knox, its first on an American military base, as it expands in the U.S. The coffee-and-doughnuts seller won a 10-year contract to operate the café on the Kentucky base, 30 miles southwest of Louisville, Chief Operating Officer David Clanachan said in a telephone interview.

Dunkin’ Donuts Could be Open In Marion, MA by Thanksgiving

Ricky Pursle reports at Wicked Local Rochester reports that Marion Planning Board brought the nine-year-old Dunkin’ Donuts saga to a conclusion on Oct. 5 by amending both the special permit and site plan review approval that the board had issued earlier this year to change the permitted time for delivery of baked goods from 5 a.m. to as early as 4 a.m. The action is expected to bring an end to the case before the board.

Attorneys Criticize Dunkin’ Donuts’ Litigious Behavior

Following Dunkin’ Donuts Independent Franchise Owners’ (DDIFO) twentieth annual meeting in September, president Jim Coen issued a letter to members stating that the association favors a more collaborative approach to reconciling the problems that Dunkin’ Brands sees the need to litigate against. He declared, “Dunkin’ Brands continues to pursue litigation against franchisees and shows no signs of changing their seemingly harsh and predatory practices.”

According to Coen, DDIFO is willing and able to take this discussion with Dunkin’ behind closed doors, but the franchisor has not shown as of yet, its willingness to do so. He explains, “Keep in mind that there are hundreds of Dunkin’ Donuts franchise owners who are today, fighting for their livelihood, trying to protect and defend their sweat equity built over many years, against a seemingly arrogant and intractable Dunkin’ Brands Loss Prevention with very deep pockets. I think that is unacceptable.”

Dunkin’ Donuts Closes in Greenwood Mississippi

Bob Darden reports at Greenwood Commonwealth that the recent closure of Greenwood’s Dunkin’ Donuts after less than a year is yet another sign of the contracting economy, Mayor Carolyn McAdams said Tuesday. “It’s another loss of a few employees that do not have a job now. It does play havoc on our community,” she said. The store, which opened in December, closed last week. It is owned by Capital Franchise Group Inc. Fred Carl Jr., founder, president and chief executive officer of Viking Range Corp., is chairman of Capital Franchise.
