In politics some number of years ago, you would hear of the “southern strategy” as a viable political calculation as to how a presidential candidate could capture the requisite number of Electoral College votes to win the US Presidency. Well, we don’t hear much of it as a ‘political strategy’ these days, but it sure might work for businesses. This week, Area Development Magazine released its 2019 Top States for Doing Business Report and 8 of the top 10 states are from the Deep South, with Georgia topping the listing for the 6th consecutive year with Ohio and Indiana being the geographical exceptions. Tennessee, North Carolina, Alabama and South Carolina fill out the top 5 states. In the same vein, in the Overall Costs of Doing Business Category, the south finished even stronger with 9 of the top 10 states hailing from south of the Mason-Dixon line!
