President Trump has submitted the name of a Wage and Hour Division official as his latest nominee for a vacant seat on the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC). Current Deputy Administrator for the Department of Labor’s Wage & Hour Division, Keith Sonderling was nominated to a vacant republican commissioner position by the President. If confirmed, Sonderling will further solidify the Republican majority on the commission, currently a 2-1 majority. From January until early May, the EEOC lacked a quorum and consequently, could not make major policy decisions, such as initiating major litigation until a quorum was re-established with the May confirmation of Janet Dhillon. The President also re-nominated Democratic commissioner Charlotte Burrows, whose term expired July 1.
