Notwithstanding the best efforts of the NLRB and likely, much to their dismay, the notion of union membership seems to lose more luster with the working class each week. We noted this week that workers at the Boeing plant in Charleston, SC overwhelmingly rejected membership in the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers. Of 3,000 workers (2828 of whom voted), a full 74% or 2,097 rejected joining the union, which represents 30,000 Boeing employees in Seattle (home of the $15/hour minimum wage). Conversely, there were only 731 votes in favor! A sign of the times, perhaps?
